Leveraging Your Way To Success

A simple lever is a teeter totter or seesaw. I remember as a child going to the playground with my family and teeter tottering with my younger brother; since I was older and larger I could keep him in the air while I sat on the ground. Now, when I was on the same teeter totter, with my dad on the other side, the tables were turned. It didn't take my brother and me long to realize that if we both got on one end of the teeter totter that we could use our combined weight to leverage Dad off of the ground.

Simply stated, by pooling our resources we easily reached an objective that neither of us would have been able to reach alone.

This same principle is used in business. A great example of that is the old shampoo commercial where the product was so great the each user told two people and they told two people until everyone was using this great shampoo.

Leveraging is one of the most critical elements for achieving financial success. Can you imagine how long it would take the shampoo company to sell their product without distributors and their sales people that sell the product to the retail outlets, and then in turn to the public? After all one man working one hour is ... duh, one man hour; but one hundred men working one hour is one hundred man hours. If the men were all working toward selling shampoo, do you think that they would sell more shampoo than the single man working alone?

Of course they would!

Now, what if they were each paying the company just a percentage of each sale that they made? They would all make money. That's leveraging.

Online the commissioned sales person is called an affiliate for the company or product and is paid a commission for each sale. The affiliate doesn't need to create or stock a product in order to sell and profit from the product.

At the same time... you have to evaluate the methods that are used Online to achieve the sale. Not all systems are created equally.

You would think that because you do not have your own product or website this would be the easiest way to make some money on the Internet. But take a look! If you spend $150 in advertising costs on Google, you may see a few hundred visitors to your affiliate website. The product that you are marketing sells for $150, and the merchant with whom you are affiliated pays 50% commission. This means that you stand to make $75.00 per sale (less payment processor fees.)

Let’s also assume that of those 300 people who clicked on your ad and you made four sales! Exciting, isn’t it?

But from another angle it doesn’t look so rosy.

Let's do the math. You spent $150 on a Google campaign to make $150.00. According to “the math” you just broke even, but that’s your gross profit, before processing fees. You’ll actually have lost money.

So much for financial independence!

The merchant you were marketing, as an affiliate, just made $150.00 and he didn’t even have to get out of bed to make his money... from your sales. As a further wake-up-call, he probably has thousands more affiliates who are filling his coffers every day, just like you are. Why? Because they believe that someday they will become rich!

If you are going to make money with affiliate marketing you have to be plugged into a sound marketing system. Doing all of the work, and paying for the advertising while getting little or nothing for it is not leveraging.

Learn how to apply the power of leveraging for yourself. Develop the mindset to advance yourself and your quality of life. It isn’t your responsibility to make someone else richer. After all, you turned to the Internet to ensure YOUR future, right? Chances are you are not earning substantial income, mainly because you are not marketing from a position of power.
